Family and Community Education (FCE) News
FCE Mission
The mission of the Kansas Association for Family and Community Education (FCE) is to work with the K-State Research and Extension to enrich Kansas families through educational programs, leadership development, and community service
FCE Units
FCE Units are groups of people who learn together. Each group determines topics of interest, and members participate in planning and presenting programs. FCE program leaders are provided training through K-State to present information and presentations to FCE members and other individuals throughout the community.
FCE History
The first unit in Kansas was organized in 1914. The units were originally organized to help Kansas rural women achieve the standard of living of their city counterparts. The organizations have been known by several names during their existence. They were first known as Farm Bureau Units. Next came Home Demonstration Units and then Extension Homemaker Units. The organization adopted the Family and Consumer Education name in the eighties.
FCE & K-State Research and Extension
A unique relationship through a Memorandum of Understanding in which we partner with the Cooperative Extension Service to provide educational programs from Kansas State University and the National Association for Family and Community Education. Family Consumer Sciences Agents act as advisors to FCE.
